Big Bullets have said despite their key defender George Nyirenda’s apology, it is not automatic that he will be accepted back in the fold.

Bullets general secretary, Harold Fote, said this yesterday when reacting to Nyirenda’s claims on MBC Radio II that he had apologised to the team.

“Officially, he is yet to explain on why he left for South Africa without the club’s consent.

“Of course, I personally met him and he claimed to have been misguided by his agent whom he went to meet in South Africa,” said Fote.

He said the team’s policy remains that no player is bigger than the club.

“This team has had big-name players such as Kinnah Phiri, the Waya brothers, Peter Mponda, Chance Gondwe, Gilbert Chirwa, Andrew Chikhosi, the departed CJ [John Banda] and Chikondi Banda, but at no time did it bow down to their pressure,” said Fote.

He said the player will appear before a disciplinary committee later in the week.

Asked if he will be considered for the weekend Super League game against Civo United, Fote said: “It will depend on the outcome of the meeting.”

In the radio interview, Nyirenda contradicted himself on the issue of contract, saying he never said that he did not have a contract with Bullets, but two weeks ago, he told The Nation that his contract with Bullets had expired.
